Veteran Gazal singer Pankaj Udhas who sung Chitthi aayi hai passes away after prolonged illness at the age of 72. He was diagnosed with cancer few months before and was treating at Breach Candy hospital Mumbai. Her daughter Naayab Udhas shared his father’s sad demise and wrote “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February due to a prolonged illness. Udhas family.”
His last rits held on Tuesday 27th February at Hindu crematorium situated at Warli. Pankaj Udhas cremated with state honor. Many celebrities and singers like Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan,Sunil Gavaskar, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Papon and Vidhya Balan came to give him final farewell.

This was his first earning from singing. From earning 51 Rupees to winning Padmashri it was a huge achievement for him.
